So if you are an Apple fan and hold more than one of the following product range, such as iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods, or Apple MagSafe accessories, at some point in time, you must be wondering if you can charge all the devices at one go conveniently. Because looking at cables lying around or that extra charging port needed can be frustrating at times. Well, Apple currently has a MagSafe Duo charger that can charge up to two of your devices simultaneously. But is it worth getting?
To Go For
Thoughtful Design: It has a compact and foldable design, making it great to bring around, especially if you travel a lot. And it gives the user an option to fold the charger into a nightstand mode for iPhone charging if needed.
Nice Finishing: Designed with a soft rubber material, the MagSafe Duo Charger is nice to hold onto and looks pretty neat like any Apple product. However, it does have visible creases in the folding area, which wouldn't affect the performance in any way, just a little aesthetically not pleasing when opening up flat for charging.
Auto Align: It's nice how you can place your devices on the MagSafe Duo charger without worrying too much about aligning it accurately for the charging to work. Such strategically-placed magnets within the MagSafe Duo does improve the overall wireless charging experience.
Probably Not
Steep Price: It sells at a hefty price of S$199 with just the MagSafe Duo port and lightning to USB-C cable in the box. And, it does not come with any power adapter along with it. Meaning, depending on which power adapter you are getting, there is an additional price on top of the $199 unless you are using your current device's power adapter.
Compatibility: While the MagSafe Duo charger is compatible with all Apple Watch models, it still has limited compatibility for the iPhone models and AirPods. Hence, it is best to check which iPhone model you or your loved ones are using before getting it. Aside, if you have Qi-certified devices or accessories, it can also be charged with the MagSafe Duo.
Charging Speed varies: Depending on the power adapter used, the charging speed differs too. According to Apple, to charge both iPhone and Watch together requires at least a 15W. However, it will be a slow charging speed.
Honestly, I will consider buying this MagSafe Duo Charger even at a steep price only if it can work with more of my older Apple models and if it comes in a full set instead of just the cable and charging port. What do you think?
