NVIDIA announced its latest RTX 30-series just last month, including the RTX 3090, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070. And finally made available for purchase this 29th October is the RTX 3070 mid-tier GPU with a starting price of $790. According to NVIDIA, it is an entry point to high-power graphic performance for only a fraction of its previous flagship RTX 2080 Ti’s price. And although it is not designed to push 4K gaming like its flagship sibling, it still carries an entry-level 4K and excellent 1440p gaming performance.
Gaming Performance
1440p (2560 x 1440)
The NVIDIA RTX 3070 offers 1440p that delivers high frame rates on par or even a tad better than the previous flagship RTX 2080 Ti. Also, the RTX 3070 can deliver above 60 frame rate per second (fps) when running on a 1440p without ray tracing and a 1080p Ultra even in demanding games such as the Metro Exodus. Meaning fast-paced aiming and firing is much smoother and faster with a higher refresh rate in 1440p in gaming.
4K (3840 x 2150)
On the other hand, the 4K result for RTX 3070 does not seem as impressive as the 1440p result. With games hitting 60fps or below even with the ray-tracing off. And this might be an issue, especially when more modern games require more headroom to run a 4K game. Hence, a drop in visual quality will make more sense to maintain higher frame rates at 4k.
Worth getting?
GPU can be costly, especially for high-end models that provide better performance in productivity and gaming experience. However, for S$790, half the saving, the RTX 3070 Founder Edition provides almost similar 1440p gaming performance than the RTX 2080 Ti. So, if you are looking for a good 1440p with a high refresh rate for a gaming experience or an upgrade from the earlier GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 GPU, then the RTX 3070 is worth getting for now.
